Maybe sexy isn't what we need to be? Call me old fashioned but I find very little sexy about IT, Banking or Finance and yet these are the industries that are allegedly winning over the young and talented.

In fact, is any industry (other than the rather obvious sex industry) actually sexy? Motor racing is exciting but not really sexy, at least not to me, Airlines workers sound as though they have a glamorous life but again, after 12 hours in a jump seat I imagine their jobs lack a little sparkle. I could go on but I think the reality is that there are few industries that are sexy but certainly some that seem to have the respect of the public more than others.

Whilst I have no data to justify the following, my own opinion is that the public view of insurers is poor, along with solicitors and estate agents whereas supermarkets and technology companies are loved - even if they provide a poor service. So is supermarket shopping sexy? Of course not, but I do believe this takes us back to that good old argument about tangibility - at least you get something you want from the supermarket when you hand over your money, I am not sure the same is true of insurance.

I do believe the industry can do more to raise its profile with the public. Perhaps if we commented more on what has been paid out, fixed and improved peoples lives, rather than headlines of 'Insurers warn rates will rise' ?

But lets not get too carried away with ourselves, there are exciting elements to what we do, possibly verging on sexy to some, but sending out policy wordings with pink fluffy love hearts, vouchers for Agent Provocateur and champagne are not going to convince the public we have become the Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt of industry.
