So these are the bright sparks Lloyd’s have got in on their new graduate scheme?
Like most students I still didn’t really have a clue about what I wanted to do for a career, my dreams of becoming an astronaut were definitely not going to materialise so I had to look elsewhere….
I heard about the new Lloyd’s graduate scheme from a professor at university, and I knew a little about Lloyd’s beforehand, so I did some more homework and decided to apply.
The application process went quite smoothly, but when it came to the assessment centre—that’s where I really started to feel the pressure.
It was just that this was going to be my first assessment centre and I had no clue what to expect. So there was a lot of talking to friends, to people from the careers centre at university and some family to help me prepare. I had practice interviews, dry run exercises and got hints and tips from the Lloyd’s graduate website to see what characteristics Lloyd’s actually wanted their graduates to have.
Luckily all this hard work paid off and when I did get my offer phone call I couldn’t really believe it, I even asked if it was a joke! I started screaming and shouting and I was told when I started working at Lloyd’s that I’d actually forgot to hang up the phone so HR could hear all my celebrations… quite embarrassing.
And so, my City boy career was just about to begin…
