Time to meet the team—the people who I’ll be spending the majority of my day with for the next six months.
When I was first taken to my area I was given a quick once over of the surroundings: an inviting window-facing desk; an approachable looking team…things were looking promising.
I was introduced to everyone in the Risk Management team and taken on a little tour, also shown where to find a few essentials…coffee machine, toilets and the quickest route to the canteen!
I began to relax and feel much more comfortable about the whole situation.
Risk Management is made up of the three teams: Risk Analysis (the team I will predominately be working with), Operational Risk, and Business Continuity Planning.
These teams aim to provide confidence by enabling effective management of the key risks facing Lloyd’s.
As soon as I sat at my desk I got a large folder, full of reading material outlining all of the projects I’ll be involved in and a few publications from Lloyd’s that’ll help me get a better understanding of how Lloyd’s operates.
Quite a daunting first day to say the least…I do thrive on juggling many tasks at a time so the fact that most of my work is project based was a huge draw for me joining this team.
I won’t embarrass any of my team with their mug shots on here but they are a great bunch of people. And contrary to what Tom may say in his blog, my team are actually the best team—if you spend even the smallest amount of time with us you’ll see this for yourself.
I’ve been put into a quite young team, so we have a lot in common. On my first day we went out to lunch and I got to find out a lot more about what I would be doing over the next six months, but more importantly got to know more about my team, and safe to say I think I will fit in perfectly.
I think as this graduate scheme has you put on three 6-monthly placements, the most difficult challenge, personally, is to be able to make an impact in the short amount of time you have; and to ensure you leave a good lasting impression on your team, department and even directorate—a skill I’m refining as we speak.
